Don’t be afraid of designing a non-traditional bathroom

Bathrooms across the country and world, including those in the Chevy Chase, MD area, are becoming more focused on relaxation and tranquility than ever before. Gone are the days of a purely utilitarian space with four plumbing fixtures (toilet, sink, bathtub and shower); today, homeowners would rather focus on an in-home escape from the world that has brought with it a variety of options rarely considered.

When you think about remodeling your NW DC bathroom, why should you stop at just repainting the same walls and ceilings? A new bath surround looks better than the old one, but why now take it to the next level and design something breathtakingly beautiful and unexpected? Designing a bathroom remodeling project for your luxury home should be just that — a luxury rather than merely a necessity.

Don’t be afraid of windows in the bathroom. Even though you have been warned of — and probably worried about — peeping Toms your entire life, there are ways to keep your privacy and still enjoy the natural beauty and elegance of natural lighting. Products are available today that allow the light to shine through, while blocking external view. If you are still unsettled by the possibility of someone seeing you, consider the addition of a skylight in the bathroom. Skylight shades are available to cover the opening when needed, and with a simple flip of a switch, the bathroom will come alive with glorious sunlight that is relaxing and revitalizing at the same time.

Tile was once just for the floor of a bathroom, and at one time signified the difference between an out-of-date bathroom and a state-of-the-art bathroom. Tile of all varieties is being installed in bathrooms throughout Washington, DC on some surfaces that may just surprise you. Bathroom walls, floors, showers, counter tops and back splashes are all being crafted of beautiful natural stone tile that provides a durable surface and a beautiful aesthetic.
