Choosing The Right Materials For Your Kitchen Remodeling Project

By . February 3rd, 2012. Posted in custom remodeling, kitchen remodeling

Nothing sets your custom, luxury kitchen apart from others like the materials you choose. Whether you seek the elegance of custom granite counter tops to coordinate with your fine oak cabinetry, or the modern look of stainless steel appliances and cabinets, the choices you make for your Georgetown Washington DC  define your personal taste.

When assessing your options, never allow yourself to be swayed by the input of others, unless of course you do not want to make the decision for yourself. If that is the case, you should always interview several interior designers to ensure you really like their style and they listen to your input. But, now back to making choices on your own.

One of the hottest trends in kitchen remodeling throughout the Palisades Washington DC and Chevy Chase MD region is mixing your materials. Of course the materials should always coordinate nicely, but have you considered the alternative of changing materials for the countertop and backsplash? Nothing says they must the be same, and you shouldn’t be apprehensive about mixing them up.

For example, consider using a neutral solid surface material for the counter tops, and reserve the more expensive granite for an island in the center of the kitchen. Using a slab of marble for the baking counter while topping the wet areas of the kitchen with ceramic tile or laminate provides variety and elegance to your custom kitchen remodeling project.

Don’t forget about the backsplash. While tradition indicates it matches the counter, who says you have to follow tradition while redesigning your Edgemoor Washington DC kitchen? Install a stainless steel backsplash behind the range, but use ceramic tile around the perimeter of the rest of the countertop. You then have the classic and modern looks combined to create your unique workspace.
