Myth #1: Green residential building is by far more expensive than traditional building practices.
Even though this myth about green residential building has been proven wrong time and again, it unfortunately remains out there floating in peoples' minds. Experts advise that green residential building is considered too expensive by most potential homebuilders simply because only the high-end ultra-expensive green building projects receive any attention from the media. Working with your design build contractor you can find ways to incorporate green building techniques at nearly every budget.
Myth #2: Only the materials used in green residential building matter.
The materials used in a green residential building project certainly do matter in the overall design and construction of the house, but they are not the only factor to be considered. Other green improvements such as eco-friendly HVAC systems, energy efficient appliances and windows and where the house is built are all factors considered. Green residential building is about the entire construction process rather than simply what is used to build the final product.
Myth #3: Green residential building products are inferior to their traditional counterparts.
Forget about the toilet and insulation arguments - they are invalid and incorrect. High efficiency toilets that use less than two gallons of water with each flush were once consider faulty. However, more than 10 years ago, it was mandated that all new construction projects use these high efficiency toilets and they still work well today.
Myth #4: Green residential building products are not easily available.
With the invention of the Internet and the dependency on it most Americans have developed, this should not be an issue for anyone. Granted, you may pay a bit more for shipping and handling on some green residential building products than others, but even so, the product is available.
When considering a green residential building project in the Washington DC area, contact the premier green building team at Hanlon Design Build. Our design build contractor firm specializes in green building and eco-friendly building techniques and designs.
