Remodeling Tips For Washington DC Homeowners

Remodeling your home brings joy, frustration and excitement all at the same time and while that makes you life less than boring, it can be bad for your health sometimes. This sometimes comes from the ups and downs of planning a remodeling project for your custom, luxury home; so, if you plan ahead and use these general remodeling tips, you should be able to enjoy the process with limited stress.

  • Always be creative or hire someone who is creative. Even though you may think you have a huge creative bone, get a second opinion or at least seek someone else's ideas before making a final decision. Determining what you want to create and discussing the various options with your designer may provide unusual outcomes or less expensive alternatives.
  • Decide if you need to remodel or just refresh your room. If the room is structurally sound and just needs a fresh look and feel, just put some paint on the walls and move on to your next project. Finding things to correct where there aren't any is just a waste of time, money and resources that could have been used for another project.
  • If you can't fix it, consider covering it. Homes that are older and have plaster-covered walls tend to have damage to the surface that often goes unrepaired, because let's face it - not many people find plastering a broken wall much fun, so use something to cover it up instead. Heavy or textured wall paper can work miracles for reducing or eliminating the number of blemishes found on a wall.
  • Play tricks with paint: Using a solid color of paint, color all of the walls the same color in all the rooms to make the house seem bigger.
